Jane Van Houten, Music Minister
Jane Van Houten is well versed in the West Michigan area. The youngest of 11 children (eight girls & three boys), thus having eight moms and four dads, grew up in East Grand Rapids and attended St. Andrew’s School & Marywood Academy. Prior to joining us as Music Director in January 2009, Jane Van Houten spent 12 years as a choral director and pianist working with choirs in all capacities. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy with a piano major and voice/composition minor and from Michigan State University. Passionate about music education, Jane became involved in choral training through her work with the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys as the Cadet Choir director and adjunct vocal instructor for the Preparatory Chorus. This inspired her to take classes from the Royal School of Choir Music in Manchester, England. Jane is a member of American Federation of Pueri Cantores.
Janet Potoczny, Secretary
When it comes to a warm welcome, nothing matches the smiling face of Janet Potoczny, our Parish Secretary. Known for her affectionate personality, Janet enjoys baking in her spare time and spending time with her two children and husband, John. She is originally from a small community in North Carolina where her family remains. Janet and her family relocated to Michigan in 1993 where she and her family established themselves in the Immaculate Heart of Mary community.
Barb Heinbeck, Business Administrator
Barb was raised at St. Alphonsus parish/school and from there graduated from West Catholic. She has a brother who is a Redemptorist priest and a sister who is a teacher at Northview. She and her husband have three children and five grandchildren. After spending 33 years in the dental field Barb came to IHM in 2004. She is a runner, a weightlifter and in her spare time (if any) she loves to sew or garden. Her favorite book to read is a history book or something about forensic medicine. Her very favorite thing to eat is chocolate–nature’s cocoa bean! It’s the only vegetable she’ll eat.
Jane Eggleston, Stewardship and Communications Coordinator
Jane has been a member of IHM since 1998. She grew up down the street at St Paul the Apostle and then went on to Catholic Central where she met her future husband in freshman biology class. After graduating MSU with a forestry degree, Jane traveled awhile before marrying Bob. She worked as an urban forester while Bob attended Dental school. Their three children came next (not all at once!), and suddenly Jane’s life was filled with schedules for school, sports and a few volunteer opportunities. This gave Jane a bit of insight into how volunteers are an integral part of parish life and she strives to improve the experience for both volunteers and the parish.
