Liturgical Ministry Sign-Up Fair

Liturgical Ministry Sign-Up Fair

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish would like to welcome all parishioners to join us for our Liturgical Ministry Sign-up Fair on September 21/22nd after each Mass in the Narthex. Our ministry leaders will be available to help answer any questions you may have about these important ministries and assist with signing up through Ministry Scheduler Pro.
Liturgical ministries such as Altar servers, Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans and Lectors assist in our weekly Mass. Each ministry plays an important role in assisting Fr. Troy with the Mass. Along with our beautiful choirs each of these active participants serve our Lord and each other.  These are great opportunities to become an active part of your parish community and involve yourself and family in weekly Mass.
These ministries are scheduled using our online program Ministry Scheduler, which you can personalize with your preferred Mass times to serve and dates you are available. Scheduled rotations are made every three months. Sub requests are made online for ease of use and better communication. We are looking for volunteers who can engage with this online platform and be a committed part of this ministry.
These Liturgical Ministries will have training provided. Please read the description of each ministry on the next page and see where your gifts and time matches up the best.
Prayerfully consider sharing your time and talents. Our parish benefits from involved and engaged parishioners. The grace you receive from being a part of Mass is countless.  Please seek us out. We would love to have you!

“Seeking to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, we reach out in Christian service to our families, our parish, our community and our world.”

Liturgical Ministries:

Altar Servers: The Altar Servers assist the priest during the Mass and other liturgical celebrations. The Altar Server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. Jesus is present and active in every liturgy. Therefore they are servants of Jesus, the eternal High Priest. Servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. Three Altar Servers are needed at each Mass. Training is required before you are eligible to serve. Initial trainings are offered to boys and girls at the end of 4th grade and are available to students through high school. Refresher trainings are required in the Spring and Summer of each year. Those who have mastered the responsibilities for at least two years will be trained to be lead servers. Once a student reaches high school he or she is welcomed and encouraged to continue serving at the altar. Scheduling is once or twice a month during 3 month rotation.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: What a privilege it is, that being the Body of Christ we are enabled to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to other members of the Body of Christ during Mass. Eight ministers are needed at each Mass.  This also includes anyone interested in bringing the Eucharist to the homebound or nursing homes. Training is required. Scheduling is on a monthly rotation during the 3 month Ministry Schedule rotation.
Lectors: Lectors use the gift of speech that God has given us to proclaim God’s word. An ideal reader is one who has a strong speaking voice, who has a love of scripture. and is eager to grow in the understanding of the Word of God. Two Lectors are assigned to each Mass, one for each of the readings. Training is available. Scheduling is once or twice a month during 3 month rotation.
Sacristans: Sacristans set up the credence table before Mass. They are asked to arrive 15 minutes before Mass to prepare the credence table and to set out the bread and wine for the Presentation of Gifts. Scheduling is on a monthly rotation by Mass preference. This works well if you are a Eucharist Minister serving at the same time. Training is provided.
Ushers: Ushers extend the hospitality of the Lord’s house to all who come to worship. More than just taking the collection, ushers are there to make sure everyone is welcomed, has a place to sit and to respond to any emergencies that might come up. Any parishioner, male or female, may serve as an usher. Six ushers are needed per Mass. Training is required. Arrive to Mass 15 minutes prior to welcome parishioners. Scheduling is on a monthly rotation during the 3 month rotation.
