Bereavement Ministry

Ministers in this committee accompany a family on their first year’s journey after the death of a loved one.  Each bereavement minister is assigned one or two families, depending upon the number of volunteers and the number of deaths.  A phone call or card is sent to the next of kin on the anniversary date as well as other important dates—wedding anniversary, Christmas, etc.  This group has a planning committee that meets as needed.  Members serve as their schedule permits.  They will be holding a 6 week bereavement support group, but the date has not been determined.  They are looking for individuals who feel called to journey with others after the death of a loved one.

Funeral Buffet

These volunteers prepare and/or serve a buffet lunch for families after the death of a loved one.  Volunteers are called upon as needed as their schedules allow.  Food donation volunteers are asked to make a dish approximately 2-3 times a year as needed.  New people are moved to the top of the list when added.  They have over 250 people signed up now.  They could use more help in the kitchen for clean up.  No training is required; just pitch in when events happen which unfortunately are random.

Ministers to the Sick and Homebound

Members of the parish are needed to carry the Body of Christ weekly to those who are sick and suffering.  As our parishioners age, we are in greater need of volunteers for both nursing homes and homebound parishioners.  This ministry can be expanded to include those who will send birthday, Christmas and/or Easter cards to our homebound parishioners.  Volunteers can also be matched as prayer partners to the homebound.
