5TH GRADERS TAKE TOP TWO HONORS IN GEOGRAPHY BEE!  Congratulations to Winner Jack Zeidins and runner-up Conor Nielson for their exciting performance at yesterday’s Geo Bee.  Representatives from grades 4-8 competed and these two fifth graders came out on top! Jack will have a chance to move on to State competition next month! Well done to all!
 SAVE THE DATE:  IHM PRESCHOOL AND CHILDCARE INQUIRY NIGHT   January 18, 2018 at 6:15 pm! Junior high school students will be on hand to play with your little one(s) during the 20 minute presentation. WELCOME NATIONAL EVANGELIZATION TEAM (NET) TO IHM! NET Ministries challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the Church. Divided into 16 teams, these college aged “missionaries”  travel across the U.S. to share the Gospel with young people and their families. Since 1981, NET teams have led over 32,000 retreats and ministered to more than 1.9 million young Catholics.  Our IHM  junior high kids  will meet with them tomorrow.
AN EVENING WITH BROKEN MARY  Come hear the story of a rock and roll radio broadcaster’s encounter with real love–Our Lord, through devotion to our Blessed Mother…; where his devotion to the Holy Rosary has brought him; how this devotion can and will change your family life. Meet us at 7pm in the Church this Wednesday evening followed by a praying of the rosary. No experience necessary!
IHM’S TRAVELING STATUE OF MARY AND THE ROSARY DEVOTION It’s the perfect way to bring the message/devotion of the rosary home to your family. Again…no experience necessary! Instructions are enclosed, as a well as a Kid-friendly DVD on the story of Fatima. What does it involve? You promise to display “her” in a prominent place at home; you promise to pray part or all of the rosary each day; you do this from a Tuesday through a Monday. SQUEAKY CLEAN SOULS!  Thanks be to God for His gift of Reconciliation! Special thanks to the MANY priests who came to celebrate the Sacrament with us today and for their zeal for our souls! Special congratulations to our 2nd graders who are making their First Confession today or will be on Saturday!  Added Note: Fr Troy has added extra hours for Confession in preparation for Christmas Dec 13  11am-Noon; Dec 14 5-7pm; Dec 16   3-4:50pm

SPEAKING OF MARY….”A Night with Broken Mary” Immaculate Heart of Mary Church invites you to come and pray Wednesday, December 13th after a short presentation by Kevin Matthews, author of the book “Broken Mary.” Kevin will share his journey of his early years in radio and stand-up comedy, his successful career, struggles with multiple sclerosis, and importantly, his encounter with a broken Mary statue left next to a dumpster, and what has happened as a result. Following his talk, he will lead a rosary for all to participate. This is sure to be an uplifting and inspiring night filled with devotion to our Blessed Mother, and a call for all to pray the rosary daily. Please join us at 7 p.m. in church for a night with Broken Mary!

SUCH A GRAND AFTERNOON WITH SANTA!  Thanks be to God for: Mrs. Megan Tietema for chairing the event;  the MANY high school and junior high students who gave of themselves for a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon and our ever-faithful Knights of Columbus for cooking the meal and serving! All involved generously  pooled their time and talents for the Annual Breakfast with Santa event which was the best yet!

IHM WOMEN’S ADVENT SERVICE TONIGHT!  All women are invited to come spend some time putting the whole holiday season in right perspective. 7pm in the DeMazenod room. Dessert refreshments to follow. Bring a friend!

THIS WEDNESDAY 2nd graders First Reconciliation Retreat starting with the All school Mass at 8:30 am! Second graders ONLY may wear their school uniform that day or church appropriate attire. No Jeans please!

LAPTIME AND OPEN GYM  This Thursday! Join us for an hour of sing-songs, stories, a craft and prayers! Parents and caregivers and their infants and toddlers are welcome at 10am. The practical resources provide an intuitive means to learn about the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit, and enable one to discover that happiness is living virtuously as a disciple of Christ. IHM WOMENS ADVENT SERVICE   Monday Evening 7-8:00 pm in the DeMazenod Room. A lovely evening of reflection and fellowship open to all IHM parish and school women (and their friends/family) to help us put the holiday season into perspective. Refreshments afterwards.

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 6  SECOND GRADERS FIRST RECONCILIATION RETREAT    IHM parish and school second graders will be preparing to make their First Confession beginning Wednesday with Mass and throughout the morning. 2nd graders only may wear church appropriate clothing to school on Wednesday for the their retreat.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 7 ALL SCHOOL RECONCILIATION DAY!  Please spend some time with your kids this weekend and help them prepare for their confession next Thursday afternoon.  Your kid’s teacher is helping them go through the steps of going to confession…please help them go through the examination of conscience to make a good confession.  Here is the Act of Contrition we teach:

Scholastic Book Fair is coming to IHM!  On Sunday, December 3 from 12:00-2:00, we will be hosting a book fair in conjunction with the Santa Breakfast event.  Students  and teachers will have made a wish list of items this week should you wish to make your kid or their teacher extra happy this Christmas.  Face painting and a fun photo opportunity complete with props will be here on Sunday as well.  Besides Sunday, there are 3 additional opportunities to make purchases;  Students may purchase during school hours on Wednesday, November 29. The book fair will also be open for making purchases on Thursday, November 30 from 3:00-7:00 pm. Finally, you can shop from November 22-December 5 online at: http://www.scholastic.com/bf/immaculateheartofmarysch4. ALL proceeds from the book fair are put right back into purchasing new books for the IHM school library.

LAPTIME IS NOW FOLLOWED BY OPEN GYM!  Parents with infants and toddlers, this is the perfect way to meet other parents with young ones, the preschool teachers those little ones will soon have as teachers and a way to let your kids burn off some energy INSIDE!  Next Laptime/OpenGym is Thursday, December 7. GIRLS ON THE RUN IS COMING AGAIN THIS SPRING ! We are in need of coaches for the upcoming spring season of Girls on the Run! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!  What  a “NIGHT ON THE GREEN” it was!  Thanks to our chairpersons  Carey Neilson and Maureen Jeakle and their entire volunteer staff;   the “check out” team who gave away their night to “play” so as to man the computers;  the student volunteers; the teaching staff who manned the bid boards;  the set up and clean up crew; to all those who sported golf attire and brought their best JOY to the event; and to you who generously bid and won and bid some more!  They are still totaling receipts but best estimates say approximately $80,000 was raised for Immaculate Heart of Mary School !

IMPORTANT NOTICE!  Parents with preschoolers are now lining up in the driveway between the preschool and the “big” school shortly before 8 am. They are parked there, anticipating the 8 am drop off time for their preschooler. Once they drop off, parents DRIVE STRAIGHT THROUGH the upper parking lot and out to Plymouth Ave. This is for preschool families only! If you are dropping your K-8th grade child off later than 8 am, please escort them into the building to ensure their safety. THANK YOU!

SANCTUARY RENOVATION BEGINS TODAY!  Masses during this week will be held in different locations: Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in the GYM. Thursday and Friday morning in the Hands room!

Congratulations to Matthew and Myah M. baptized yesterday at our All School Mass! What a treat to celebrate this sacrament with the whole student body!

HOT LUNCH UPDATES  There have been concerns expressed to school office personnel regarding lunch account balances, etc. Be assured, we met with the administrator of GRPS Nutrition Center and your concerns are important. The gentleman to able to “fix” these problems is Steve and his email address is:  slabbekoorns@grps.org   It is better to email him your concern or question rather than to phone him or the school office. Please be specific in your emails to him and he has assured us he will be quick to respond.

IF YOUR LUNCH ACCOUNT IS OVERDRAWN BY $10 OR MORE your child will still eat, but not be given a hot lunch but rather a nutritious sack lunch. Please don’t fall behind in payments.  Thank you!
