Childcare is located in the Preschool building.
Days & Hours
We are open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day that school is in session. When school is closed, we are closed unless enough parents request care in advance. If school is delayed due to inclement weather, child care will be opened as soon as possible. Ms. Carmody will be opening this year and she lives close by. She will be opening and closing the Child Care Center.
Signing In and Out
When dropping off your child to childcare or picking up your child from child care, you are required to sign the attendance book and record the time. Attendance sheets are alphabetized according to last names. If your child comes from preschool or the “Big” school, the childcare teacher will sign him in. Your schedule projections will be on the attendance sheet. So in order for you to quickly see where to sign, an X will be marked at the spot. Signing in and signing out is primarily for safety reasons. Please remember that if the adults present do not recognize you or whoever is sent to pick up your child, we will ask for ID at the window in order to ensure that the pick-up person is on your list of authorized persons to take your child.
Snacks (at 9:30 a.m. and between 2:30 and 6:00 p.m.)
Please send healthy snacks (no candy, pop, or extreme sweets please).
Lunch (at approximately 11:30 p.m.)
Please bring a healthy sack lunch. Hot Lunch is not available for our building. Please bring utensils, when needed.
We begin each day and afternoon together with prayer. Then the children are free to choose from both teacher led and child led activities available in order to nurture their physical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social development. Activities include: Story Time, reading, language games, dramatic play, creative arts, crafts, sensory exploration, experiments, Manipulatives and building, computer (for a limited amount of time), board games, homework help, and more.
The children play together indoors and outdoors. However by 3:30 p.m., the children can alternate between indoor and outdoor play since more teachers are available to supervise both areas. When the weather is too harsh for outdoor play, we have Ping Pong, hopscotch, dancing, bean bag toss, stilt cups, balloon play, and more.
Preschool Rest Time
Rest time is required for 45 minutes between 1:15 and 2:30 p.m. Times vary according to needs that inevitably arise. Most of the children like to have a crib sheet on their cot in addition to a small blanket, a small pillow, and a stuffed animal. This bedding can be kept in a canvas bag at school. We will send it home to be laundered every Friday or couple of weeks depending on your schedule. A story is read before nap time, and soft music is played during nap time. Preschoolers who do not nap still benefit from having a down time. They are welcome to look at picture books while resting. Those who need it may sleep later than 2:30 p.m. unless the parent requests otherwise. Regardless, we will encourage them to be up by the time the “Big” school lets out.
Fridays after 3:30 p.m. we often offer a video and popcorn.
